In this video simply titled "Despair", he ultimately confesses that he has started volunteering with the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) despite their inclusion of Maoists, Stalinists, etc., as he narrates himself —so great is his need to have something to believe in. Believe, believe, believe: you could go through the transcript with a red marker, circle the term each time it appears, and say to him, "that's your problem right there". He wants to believe in things that cannot be believed in.

Leaning on a wall covered with wet paint, you only realize what a problem it is when (or if) you straighten out afterward.
